The Shooting Party
The Shooting Party brought together a group of 9 ambitious and talented disabled people in a group to explore the real world of film-making. Some of them had made films before, others had the passion, personality and potential to try for the first time.
Across the series of 12 programmes, each member of the group received the opportunity to make one short film – a documentary, drama, music video or experimental film - and also helped two other members of the group to make their films. The Shooting Party follows the whole process from first ideas to finished films. Each week a new episode traces the making of one film, and ends with the screening of the short film itself.
In Programme 1 we meet the would-be film-makers and follow them as they pitch ideas to a panel of industry professionals headed by Channel 4 Commissioning Editor Kate Vogel. Out of around 40 hopefuls, the group is reduced to 15.
In Programme 2, the 15 go on a weekend of brainstorming, training and shooting, observed by the panel, who choose the 9 who will form The Shooting Party.
In Programmes 3-11 we follow each of our film-makers on their individual journey to get their film made, helped by two others. Each of these programmes ends with a screening of their finished short film. Programme 12 follows the group to a special red-carpet screening - each of the film-makers has to tempt influential people to the screening where the film-makers who shows most talent and potential on screen, individually and as a team player is awarded a specially designed training or work opportunity in the industry.
